As you have probably heard, Snapchat is the hottest social media platform in the world right now. The startup worth $16 billion is constantly releasing new updates to improve the app. Recent releases have included on-demand geo filters and the huge Chat 2.0 update.
Snapchat have been working on this redesign for a long time, and it is safe to say that it has been worth the wait. Chat 2.0 aims to make communicating online as close to a real life conversation as possible. The update makes it easy to switch between text chat and video chat, and let’s you leave notes, GIFs and stickers if your friend is unavailable.
Snapchat already has over 100 million active users and hit the number one spot on the App Store for the first time last week and shows no signs of slowing down. The platform is becoming increasingly important for businesses and will soon be a huge part any tech-savvy marketing teams strategy.
Other features from the update include:
Chat 2.0 appears to be more of an attempt to retain users and prolong their time spent in the app, rather than a monetisation effort. It is likely that the more time a user spends in the app they will venture to the Discover section and view some of the commercial content available on Snapchat.
Although Chat 2.0 may not replace popular apps such as Messenger, who have been experimenting with payment methods, just yet, it is certainly taking steps in right direction.
